Tourist attractions & Activities in Mombasa North Coast
The North coast of Mombasa has a large number of high class beach hotels. Besides these there are also high class restaurants. In addition, the following attractions are also found here- The Haller's Park (Bamburi Beach)- formerly Bamburi Nature Trail, Haller's Park is a reclaimed Limestone quarry. The bare rock left by the Bamburi Cement Factory has been converted into a wildlife sanctuary with a crocodile farm, fish farm and a reptile park. Among the animals in the park are the Giant tortoise, hippos, giraffes. The celebrities in this park are Owen(Baby Hipo) who was adopted by Mzee (Giant Tortoise). Within the Haller's Park is the Bamburi Forest Trails ideal for cycling, walking and camel rides. Nguuni Wildlife Sanctuary (Bamburi) is a modern farm where ostriches, eland and onyxes are farmed. The Mamba Village is a crocodile farm with sports bar and a night club (Mamba disco). Within the farm is a snake park and an aquarium. Also available are camel and horse riding. Ngomongo Villages (Shanzu):-These cultural villages from diverse tribes of Kenya are replicas of rural Kenya life. Each of the represented tribes showcases their traditional Boma (homestead), where they grow their traditional food crops, serve their food, drinks and perform traditional dances. While in Shanzu visit Mtwapa to enjoy its beautiful setting, delightful beaches and the Marineland Aquarium. For those adventurous while in Mtwapa the nearby 15th Century ruins of Jumba la Mtwana. The Gedi ruins:-These 13th Century ruins of a Swahili City state are worthy exploring. Within the ruins is a Giriama village where you can enjoy their cultural dance. The Araboke Sokoke Forest is home to numerous species of butterflies(260 Sp), Birds (240 SP) and elephants. It was classified a world heritage site in 2002. The Watamu Marine National Park has magnificent coral and abundant fish life. The Mida Creek is a bird watcher's paradise with superb snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. Tourist Activities Besides the above attractions, Mombasa North Coast is also home to a large number of activities.
