Ruhengeri is the base of Gorilla Tracking in Rwanda.  Within Ruhengeri town there are small basic hotels like Urumuli.  Among the basic hotels in the town is Muhabura located just opposite the provincial headquarters.  The Virunga luxury lodge boast of the best location in Rwanda with panoramic views of Virunga Mountains.  The new Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is a  high-end, 16-bed  community lodge adjacent to Volcanoes National Park.

Two luxury lodges have been built around Kinigi area.  These,

A)   Sabyinyo Silver Back Lodge/Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge/Sabyinyo Community Lodge.

The Sabyinyo Community  Silverback/Silver Back Lodge is the newest luxury lodge. With 16 bed capacity, the lodge offers magnificent views of Virunga and the surrounding farmlands.  Each individual cottage comprises of a fire place, sitting room, dressing room, a large bathroom plus a bed room. We advice earliest possible booking.

B  Virunga VolcanoesLuxury Lodge

Located on a hilltop between Lakes Burela and Ruhondo, the Virunga volcanoes Luxury Lodge has offers one the most vintage locations in Rwanda.  From the lodge one enjoys panoramic views of the twin lakes and Virunga range.

Getting to Ruhengeri/Flight to Ruhengeri:

Ruhengeri can be accessed by road or by air.

Road Transport:  Ruhengeri is connected by a tarmac road to Kigali, Gisenyi and Cyanika (Rwanda/Uganda Border).  The drive Kigali-Ruhengeri will take you approximately 2 Hours via a very scenic road.

Flying to Ruhengeri:  

No scheduled flights are available at the time of writing this directory but sometimes back we managed to fly some guests from Kigali to Ruhengeri air strip. 

Tourist attractions/Activities in Ruhengeri:

Ruhengeri is the nerve centre of Rwanda's tourism.  Ruhengeri is the base town for tracking hiking and trekking mountain gorillas.  The main attractions include, the Volcanoes National Park, Virunga mountains with their four peaks-Muhabura, Bisoke, Sabyinyo and Karisimbi.  Karisimbi is the highest peak which can be ascended in two days.  An easier ascent is Bisoke-one day. Other attractions are Musanze, the natural bridge, lakes Burela and Ruhondo.
